weekend in Sarajevo

Myself and a couple of friends are heading to sarajevo at the end of May. Just wondering what are the interesting things/sights to do/see. How far is Medegore from Sarajevo, as I would like to visit it if it wasn%26#39;t too far away. Is it too late for skiing there in May?

The route finder on viamichelin. com says that the trip from Sarajevo to Medjugorje would be 163 km and would take 3 plus hours. I think its a definite place to go visit and also it would be worth your while to stop in Mostar for awhile.

Hi donjosam. There is many things to see in Sarajevo. Don%26#39;t miss the old part of the town called Bascarsija and with famous Begova dzamija (mosque). Be shure to take a cool walk beside Miljacka river. If you interested to see something about war in Bosnia dont%26#39;t miss the famous tunnel that was built during the war. The purpose of the tunnel was to transport food and weapons into the city. The tunnel was 800m long and went 5m under the ground from the city out underneath the airport to the %26#39;Bosnia Free Zone%26#39; where the Serbs were unable to bomb. etc...

About skiinng - you cannot ski in may but you can visit a beautiful Jahorina mountain.

For Medjugorje you must take a whole day trip (with Bus). And if you will go to Medjugorje don%26#39;t forget to visit old town Mostar.

Regards,

Hi, we travelled from Medjugorje to Sarajevo airport for a flight to Gatwick London in October 2008 and the drive took 2 hours and 30 minutes at a comfortable pace. The Pansion we stayed at transferred us for 100 Euro (total for the trip with 2 passengers) with beautiful scenic views on the way. We believe the bus trip is quite long and were told 7 hours. We thought the personal transfer was worth every cent.

I would consider driving myself by hire car but my wife would not. The police were quite prominent in Bosnia and the speed limits are low with reasonable ambling roads - a bit like driving from Athlone to Cork.

We may consider a hire car next time.

Dubrovnik or Split to Medjugorje seem much more commonly used access routes but of course you then have border checkpoints to cross from Croatia.

The Dubrovnik bus currently leaves for Medjugorje at about 1730 I think.
