Mostar - Help With The Basics!!!

We%26#39;ll be spending a night in Mostar and hoping that someone can give us some suggestions about the basics...

1. Lodging suggestions / what should we expect to pay (looking for something affordable, but not a hostel)

2. Should we try and hire a guide when we get there - how much should we pay? Is bargaining acceptable / expected?

3. We%26#39;ll be spending the entire day and night in Mostar and would like to hear any suggestions about what we MUST see and do.

4. Any suggestions about restaurants and the type of food we should try?

5. Do we need to take extra security/safety precautions because our rental car will be Croatian registered (since we%26#39;ll be coming from Dubvrovnik?)

6. Any other tips / general advice about Mostar???

Thank you so much in advance for your help!

Hi, to answer some of your questions:

1) I agree with above, Old town did look nice (though we didn%26#39;t stay there, we stayed in a room in a private house...called Hostel Miran, but I know you said you didn%26#39;t want hostels...it was 20euro per night).

2) We didn%26#39;t have a guide, old town Mostar isn%26#39;t very big, and it%26#39;s easy to wander around yourself

3) The fun here is just in wandering around the cobbled streets, grabbing a coffee or a drink at one of the numerous cafes. Oh, you should definitely take a walk around the front line as well, as the name suggests, it was the front line during the war, you will see all the shelled out buildings etc, very interesting. There are a few museums (old turkish house, photo galleries, old mosque etc) around the old town which are also worth a look.

4) There are lotsof restaurants in the old town, any of the ones we tried (can%26#39;t remember any names, sorry!) we all good, there are some nice ones on the river. Lots of traditional Bosnian food all very tasty, if a little oily. The coffee is great!

5) We also had a rental car from Croatia, and had no problems with it at all. Left it parked for the 2 nights/2 days we were there, and it was absolutely fine.

You will really enjoy Mostar, it%26#39;s a very relaxing place with a lot of history, I would recommend it to anyone, have a great trip!
