1 day in Mostar?

Hello. I will be in Dubrovnik next week and want to visit Mostar for a day...wander around the city for 4 or 5 hours, maybe go to Blagaj for a couple hours. Can this be done in 1 day by bus if I leave Dubrovnik early in the morning and return later in the evening? Or should I take my luggage and spend the night somewhere in Mostar?

Thanks, Baja

I think it can be done in one day. We had a car, left early in the morning, went to Medugorje, spent four or five hours in Mostar and spent an hour in Pocitelj on the way back and made it back to Dubrovnik later that night. The thought of staying there for a night is also appealing and will allow you to wander a bit more around Mostar.

But can I do this without a vehicle? I will be taking a bus. Is there a morning bus to Mostar and an afternoon or evening bus back to Dubrovnik?

you should be able to do it in one day, but it is a lot of traveling. particularly since the border crossing can be slow, id say you can do it in one day but you may feel rushed. there are lots of buses from mostar to dubrovnik and the rest of the dalmatian coast, so i wouldnt really worry too much about that. mostar is a truly beautiful place, and i%26#39;d recommend staying the night if you can take the time to. mostar at night is gorgeous, not to mention fun, and you probably wont regret having the opportunity to enjoy leisurely dinner in the old city looking out over the river and next to the bridge which is lit up beautifully at night.

I agree with Tribefan26, in that you may want to consider spending the night in Mostar. Another thing to be aware of is that our guidebook warned us there were a number of buses going TO Mostar from Dubrovnik, but very limited options coming back to Dubrovnik in the afternoon. Actually, it stated that there were none.

If this is the case, you%26#39;d have no other option but to rent a car to drive back, hire a driver, spend the night, or take a 1-day organized tour bus from Dubrovnik.

Good luck - in my opinion, getting to Mostar is definitely worth it.

I really like the idea of staying a night in Mostar. Its one of those things I just don%26#39;t see you regretting.

regarding the number of buses, i wouldn%26#39;t necessarily trust guidebooks. i know that when i called a bus station once i was in mostar (there are 2 stations, by the way), i found that there were many more buses to split than i had been expecting.
